At BlaBlaCar, we are constantly developing new ways to make carpooling more efficient and reliable. To that end, we’ve partnered with AXA, the leading global insurance provider, to make sure every ride taken on our carpooling platform better insured.
Since 2015, we have worked closely with AXA to develop this joint innovation, tailoring it to the specific needs of our global community. The partnership resulted in a first-of-its-kind product that offers additional insurance coverage for carpooling — all free of charge for our members.

How does the insurance work?
Since carpooling is all about sharing costs (passengers and drivers split the cost of the trip such as gas and toll fees), the driver’s personal insurance already covers passengers. It’s just like splitting the travel costs when carpooling with friends and family.
Now, however, passengers and drivers have additional insurance coverage at no extra cost, tailored to specific carpooling needs such as final destination guaranteed. Any time members book or post a trip online on our platform, the insurance coverage is automatically included. There’s no hidden costs or extra signups.
Currently, our additional insurance coverage is active in France, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and Belgium. As we are building this product from the ground up with AXA, the free service is being rolled out across Europe. All members are given access to a dedicated assistance hotline, where operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
