2.5 million tonnes of CO₂ avoided – BlaBlaCar publishes its 2024 Sustainability Report

BlaBlaCar announces the release of its third Sustainability Report, offering a comprehensive view of the company’s environmental and social impact in 2024. This audited report reflects BlaBlaCar’s continued commitment to transparency and responsible growth as a global leader in shared mobility.

Since its founding, BlaBlaCar has leveraged technology to build a trusted, people-powered transport network that connects more places with fewer emissions.

This year’s report highlights strong progress toward BlaBlaCar’s 2030 carbon targets and key social impact priorities. It also introduces the company’s first Double Materiality Assessment, in preparation for the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

We would like to thank our members, our community, our team, and our partners for driving meaningful impact in 2024. The support and expertise of our external thought partners were also essential in delivering this report.

BlaBlaCar’s carbon-saving model at scale

In 2024, BlaBlaCar enabled over 70 million empty seats to be filled, avoiding 2.5 million tonnes of CO₂ — a 25% increase vs. 2023. The platform’s matching technology continues to optimize trips by connecting passengers and drivers across 21 countries. BlaBlaCar also advanced its multimodal vision by adding train options to its platform, starting with Spain.

Affordable and inclusive transport for all

BlaBlaCar’s business model helped carpool drivers save €540 million by sharing fuel, toll, and other costs. With 74% of trips made by users under 30 and thousands of remote towns now connected, the platform remains a crucial solution for affordable, inclusive mobility — particularly for youth and rural communities.

Stronger together

BlaBlaCar’s impact goes beyond transport. With 120 million human connections enabled and growing diversity within the team (44% women, 52 nationalities), the company continues to build a purpose-led, diverse, and inclusive community.

Looking ahead

With its 2030 carbon targets already met for Scopes 1 and 2, the company is now focused on scaling multimodal travel and continuing the transition to biofuels across the BlaBlaCar Bus network, improving accessibility. It is also implementing its CSRD-aligned ESG roadmap to stay ahead of the curve.
